Visitor Flow & Wall Design

The spatial layout encourages a narrative path:
from understanding the background
to interacting with the framing logic
to taking home a memory
to contributing to a shared visual archive rooted in the aesthetics of the Song fan

Accordingly, the exhibition wall is divided into four thematic areas:

1. Concept & Background
Introducing the philosophical and aesthetic foundations behind the project — from gewu zhizhi (the investigation of things) to the compositional logic of Song Dynasty fan paintings.

2. Interaction Explanation
A visual and textual breakdown of how visitors engage with the interactive fan: observing, selecting, and framing floral scenes through intuitive gesture.

3. Take-home Kits

A display of souvenir kits that allow visitors to continue the experience beyond the exhibition — stamping, framing, and viewing their own seasonal compositions.

4. On-site Co-Creation
A live projection of audience-generated fan artworks. Each visitor’s composition becomes part of an evolving collective archive during the exhibition.

Project Summary

Framing the Seasons is a participatory installation that reanimates classical Song Dynasty fans with contemporary interaction. Each fan holds an NFC tag, becoming a bridge between material artifact and digital imagery. Through tangible gestures, visitors unlock seasonal narratives embedded in tradition.
Project Intention

This work explores how interaction can embody historical aesthetics. Blending algorithmic imagery, embedded electronics, and traditional materials, it investigates how technology can revive ancient rhythms of nature, memory, and cultural flow — quietly sensed, and gently framed.
